Clearspring Organic Instant Buckwheat is made from naturally gluten-free hulled buckwheat groats. When cooked these wholegrains are soft and fluffy with a slightly nutty flavour. They can be served instead of pasta, rice or potatoes with roasted vegetables, stews and casseroles. Traditionally buckwheat groats are also used in porridge and in soups. Ready to eat in just five minutes, no need to soak.

Despite the name, buckwheat is not related to wheat nor is it a grass, it is in fact closely related to rhubarb and sorrel. The name 'buckwheat' or 'beech wheat' comes from its triangular seeds, which resemble the much larger seeds of the beech nut from the beech tree, and the fact that it is used like wheat. It is one of the most versatile gluten-free grains central to many international recipes from Japanese soba noodles, Eastern European Kasha to French galettes and has been used for centuries across the world as a staple food.

Our 3rd generation producer has been milling and using buckwheat for over 100 years in the north of Italy. Clearspring Instant Buckwheat contains all the nutrients of the whole grain with only the inedible part of the husk removed during the milling process.

  • Produced by our third generation supplier in northern Italy
  • Contains all the nutrients of the whole grain with only the inedible part of the husk removed
  • Perfect as an accompaniment to stews, casseroles and roast vegetables

The robust flavour of this quick cook gluten-free grain is perfect for salads, soups and cereal. Organic buckwheat grouts also make excellent porridge, granola, tabbouleh or side dish at dinner replacing rice or any other grain called for in pilafs and casseroles. In fact, you can use buckwheat grouts in any recipe that calls for whole grains.

Buckwheat Hulls

Ever wonder where all those buckwheat hulls end up? They’re often used as the stuffing in hypo-allergenic pillows, heating pads, and other homoeopathic applications.
